Analog vs digital triggers

A proper analog trigger reports a continuous value as you pull. A digital trigger is an on/off switch. CTRLCHK prefers analog values on the standard L2/LT and R2/RT indexes. If those values are not exposed, digital presses are still shown. The controller is not marked failed.

What trigger range means

Rest, peak, range, and return are derived from the normalized button value the browser exposes. Range is peak minus rest. Returning close to rest after a release is what you want for menus and racing games. These numbers describe this browser session, not factory calibration.

Why trigger mappings differ

Xbox pads on USB usually arrive as standard mapping. Some Bluetooth stacks forget analog triggers. DualSense on Firefox may encode L2/R2 as signed axes; CTRLCHK already remaps known Sony layouts in the shared engine. If analog travel still does not appear, treat it as a capability gap and confirm in the game that actually matters. For stick rest, use the deadzone test.

What is analog versus digital trigger testing?

Analog travel uses GamepadButton.value from 0 to 1. Digital only reports pressed or not. Some controller/browser combinations expose only digital trigger bits. That is a mapping gap, not a failed trigger.

What does trigger range mean here?

Range is the browser-observed peak minus the observed rest. 100% means the API reported a full 0–1 swing, not that the physical trigger matches a factory calibration sheet.

Why do Xbox LT/RT and PlayStation L2/R2 mappings differ?

On the standard mapping both occupy buttons 6 and 7. Some Bluetooth paths omit analog values or encode triggers as signed axes. CTRLCHK normalizes known layouts; if analog still is missing, the page says so instead of inventing a failure.

Should I pull the trigger as fast as possible?

No. Slow pulls give a cleaner travel trace and a fairer return-to-rest reading. Three unhurried squeezes are enough.
